Change of Profession

Years after
The last dragon’s death
one small and lonely acolyte
of the last wizard
finds her smoking burial ground
digs below the gravestone
and witnesses

the remaining traces
of the last dragon
losing shape and
reverting to essences
of glass and charcoal.

Given the choice of trying
to resurrect the race
or singing them into legend
he puts down the tools
of alchemy and takes up
the lute and the pen.
